Since 2014, Turn Bucks Blue has worked alongside engaged citizens, dedicated candidates, volunteers, and elected officials to change the political landscape of Bucks County — methodically, race by race, year after year. The results speak for themselves.

 

School Boards

 

Democrats now hold majorities on 10 of Bucks County's 13 school boards — up from just four. We have succeeded in pushing back against fundamentalists determined to take control. Today these boards can again focus on delivering quality, equitable public education. Because of new Democratic majorities, the boards overseeing Bucks County's two largest school districts have delivered the full-day kindergarten local families have spent years advocating for.

 

The Courts

 

The judicial branch matters, even when judges serve in nonpartisan roles. We've more than doubled Democratic representation on the county's fifteen-seat Court of Common Pleas — from three judges to seven, electing all four women who ran for the bench last year. We now have jurists who are more experienced in and knowledgable about family court cases, which constitute almost 25% of all cases.

 

Countywide Offices

 

Last November, Democrats swept every county row office, including District Attorney and Sheriff. Sheriff Ceisler is making substantive changes to improve our safety such as serving outstanding warrants for perpetrators of domestic violence and other criminals. TBB funding also helped flip county commissioner seats long held by Republicans, and gained/flipped township supervisor positions and seats on borough councils across the county. The work these elected officials do is as various and important as crafting data ordinance to protect Bucks County residents and the environment; setting and upholding operational protocols for handling ICE; enforcing strict qualification criteria for all contractors or subcontractors on public works projects; overseeing sewage and water management, roadside maintenance and safe spraying; balancing budgets with public good.

Harrisburg

 

Four years ago, Democrats held only three of the county's ten state house seats. Under the stewardship of State Senator Steve Santarsiero, who also chairs the Bucks County Democratic Committee, we've expanded that to five — helping secure the one-seat Democratic majority in the state house — and we hold one of the county's three state senate seats. Two or three more house seats are within reach.

 

None of this was luck. These victories are the product of years of investment, organizing, and — dare we say it — lots of unglamorous, hard work.
